About Joan Iacono

Joan Iacono in a white blouse, sits at desk, signing a document while smiling at the camera

My name is Joan Iacono.  I was born and raised in Yonkers, a suburban city in downstate New York. I received a Bachelor of Arts from the Maxwell School of Public Administration at Syracuse University and I received a law degree from New York Law School.

I held several positions prior to establishing my own firm in Bronxville, NY. We were a general practice firm focused on Family Law (Divorce, Family Court, Real Estate, Wills and Trusts) as well as Contract disputes.

I am a litigator, a trained mediator and I practiced with a collaborative model focused on resolving conflict by finding and building upon common ground. I helped people find solutions for their problems.

I was active in the Chamber of Commerce and was Counsel to the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce for several years. For several years I was an active member and became President of an Italian/American Bar Association in Westchester County, New York and I was an active member of the New York State Bar Association Lawyer’s Assistance Program. I served on the Board of a Women’s shelter in Danbury, CT.

I am married to Michael O’Sullivan and we share three children and three grandchildren. Two of those children reside in Florida and the other family owns a second family home in Bird Bay.

I am committed to serving the people of Venice.

Q&A

I have never belonged to a political party. The City Council race is non-partisan. I hope I will get support from people in both parties based on my history of helping people resolve their problems.

Well, businesses don’t get the same Save Our Homes tax break that certain homeowners are entitled to. That’s why it’s important to reduce the millage rate from time to time to keep the tax increase from being passed on to the business owners in the form of raised rent on commercial leases. I was counsel to the Chamber of Commerce in the village where I maintained a firm, and I understand and appreciate the contributions of the businesses that make Venice what it is. I support the efforts of Venice Mainstreet and the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce and will do all I can to preserve, protect and promote our historic downtown as well as business in the greater Venice Area.

No. Bert Harris does not give special exceptions to Developers or entitle them to amendments to the Comprehensive Plan.
